“There is fullness of sympathy in our God. The river that flows from the throne of God and of the Lamb, did you ever hear of it drying up? “The “Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.” The Son, the “Consolation of Israel,” He that was sent to comfort all that mourn; the Holy Spirit “the Comforter,” leading us to Consolation of Israel and the Father of mercies. We are at the deep, deep well of love. The weariest head and the sorest heart may lean on the bosom on which the beloved disciple leaned, and find indescribable relief and indescribable sympathy, for He will whisper all the time, “All things work together for good to them that love God,” “For thought He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies.”

Thank you for this post, Christina. I want to put it up at Justification by Grace to post tomorrow morning, linking back to your site.
This devotional thought from Mr. Bonar exemplifies much of his work, in his writings and his sermons. I believe that he was often crushed in his times of prayer because he was so overwhelmed with all the fullness of Christ.
In this devotion he writes, “There is a fullness of sympathy in our God.” How wonderful that the same man who wrote and preached of the Christ drinking the cup of wrath in its fullness, down to the dregs, would also know the overwhelming and awesome delights of the fullness of God’s mercy through the sympathetic love of the Son.
Thanks again, dear sister. Be blessed in Him always as He fills you with His goodness, grace and mercy, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together and running over.
Thank you for blessing Pastor Jon!
And thank you for the background on Andrew Bonar that you’ve been providing. In light of what you have told me, and in view of his writings, the Lord was certainly near this broken man!
May His steadfast love be upon you today as you hope in Him!
Thank you Christina! I Love this quote! Once again, we’re running on the same track!
Read in Revelation this morning:
” and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” Rev 21:4 – Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb” Rev 22:1
What blessed comfort we enjoy today in our merciful God while we “groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”
But, Oh! For that day when we will no longer need comforting!
