Pastor Larry Jones of Santa Fe Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas has written a post about unholy alliances that are formed just to stop the preaching of the Gospel. Please take a moment to read his post and pray. Let’s remember those who suffer for the Gospel in the same way we would want others to remember us.

Mark 3:6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
The more I have read this verse the more I am astounded by it. It is the open blatant expression of religious conspiracy. A conspiracy in which sometime political enemies participated because they had the same goal: destroy Jesus. The saddest meetings in human history…
The Herodians were the political supporters of Herod the Great and his descendants. You know the ones… they killed all children below 2 years old just to rid the world of the baby Jesus. They were willing to do anything to keep political power. The Pharisees… you know them too, they were also willing to do anything to keep religious/political power.
In every country today there are those who, like them, will do anything to keep power. And the missionaries of Jesus are working in those countries.

Hi Christina…. Just joking on the cigar recommendations….didn’t mean to offend.. 🙂
I like your blog… praise God for His goodness and mercy toward you…He is sooooo good!
Have you seen the Pink book “The Nature of God?”… it is fabulous. It deals not only with God’s character and nature by attribute, but has a whole section on the excellencies of Christ’s person. Just marvelous!
May He richly bless you!
Shaan
Shaan,
Don’t be ridiculous! You did not offend me at all! I thought it was very funny!!
No, I have not checked out Pink’s “The Nature of God” but I will now. Sometimes I feel like a kid in a candy shop! Being new to Reformed Theology I am only now discovering this wonderful heritage of ours! I absolutely welcome any suggestions! I’m finding that I tend to favor Arthur Pink, Octavious Winslow, and Charles Spurgeon (of course) right now!
In any case, it’s a pleasure to meet you! And, please by all means, make suggestions….only keep the cigars to yourself, ok? : )
Blessings!
Shaan,
Your website looks like a great resource. I’m going to bookmark it. I look forward to exploring it more!
Thank you!
sigh…. I am glad you thought it was funny…. I was surely teasing, even though I like cigars, just like uncle Spurgeon!
On the book reccomends…. these are a must….
AW Pink – The Sovereignty of God (by far the best book on Sovereignty)
John Piper – The Pleasures of God
RC Sproul – The Holiness of God
John Murray – Redemtion Accomplished and Applied
Thomas Watson – A Body of Divinity
CJ Mahaney – Living the Cross Centered Life
Thomas Watson – All Things For Good
J Buchanan – Justification.. here – http://www.heavenslight.org/resources/buchanan_justification.pdf
If you have more time after these….let me know….I’ll send you a huge list.
So, you are “new” to reformed theology…. just remember, what you do not grasp because it is just too high and glorious and challenging, hold onto by faith, and keep reading and studying and pondering and chewing on it…. over time you will see amazing things about God and His purposes and Kingdom that will blow your mind into the endless halls of praise and glory forever! He is an infinitely glorious and wonderful God!
I am always willing to help with hard questions… keeep going girl…you are on the right track.
Make sure that your Bible reading and regular meditation on God’s Word is not hindered by any other thing….also daily prayer and devotion to God and regular fellowship with Godly Christians who challenge and provoke you to love and good deeds.
Sorry, don’t mean to preach to the choir….pleasure to meet you too.

Wonderful! Thank you so much for the book recommendations! I’m actually working my way slooowly through Grudem’s Systematic Theology. Off the list above, I think the Pink book would be my first choice. I’ve taken a real liking to him!
And, by no means are you preaching to the choir! I absolutely welcome the encouragement and counsel! Thanks for being so helpful and going forward I am considering you a resource! : )
Great post Christina! I’m running behind on reading due to actually getting some WORK done! So, I just want to say that I did NOT read this before I posted my blog today! Again, you’re my alter ego! LOL!
