“The motto of all true servants of God must be, “We preach Christ; and him crucified.” A sermon without Christ in it is like a loaf of bread without any flour in it. No Christ in your sermon, sir? Then go home, and never preach again until you have something worth preaching.”
– Charles Spurgeon, Exposition of Acts 13:13-49
“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” 1 Cor 2:2
Amen, sister.
Amen!! Lately, we’ve gone through some serious trials with American style persecution for our belief in God’s sovereignty. Because of it, at times the devil has even caused me to doubt whether I am on the right track. But our dear brother Spurgeon’s words say it all.
How can those who call themselves Christians be ashamed or afraid of preaching the gospel and be doing what God wills? How can can anyone be saved by a silent Gospel? How can anyone be delivered from their sin and Hell when Christians believe it is wrong to speak about those subjects? How can anyone be saved by merely observing a friendly face or a kind deed? According to Romans they can’t!
“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
Thank you dear sister! I needed this today. I wish all of us bloggers could get together for a day to fellowship in person. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? But…we’ll have to wait for Heaven. It’ll be here before we know it!
Diane,
“I wish all of us bloggers could get together for a day to fellowship in person. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?”
Yes, that would be wonderful! I have thought the same thing and wondered if there wasn’t a conference that we could attend. Certainly worth thinking and praying about since I personally have been most edified in the faith by so many out in cyber world!
Thanks Christina…. may God help us to hear and obey this word!
Diane, what you describe is the cult of so-called American Evangelical Christianity. These new doctors of psychotherapy and seeker friendly religion are slowly redefining and squeezing the life’s blood out of the Gospel by all kinds of fine sounding arguments….Surely Paul’s words are upon us…
2 Tim 4:3-4 – 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. NASB
But then, so also is Paul’s remedy vital today for the faithful preacher and his people ….
2 Tim 4:1-3 – 4 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. NASB
And this is how we make war against “the spiritual forces of wickedness” which are behind it all……
2 Cor 10:4-6 – 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, NASB
Keep preaching the Truth….when you are persecuted, rejoice, for so they treated the prophets who went before us….even our Lord!
And when your heart is broken because of the pain of broken relationships because you had to stand on the Truth….cry out to our Lord who is closer than a brother….He will heal and sustain your faithful heart…
The Day will soon come and the King will arrive…. and Joy will come in the morning! The Day will dawn on us and He will wipe every tear from our eyes, so shall we be with the Lord forever! Bliss, forevermore, world without end….
Shaan, You are absolutely 100% right!!!
Thank you for the affirmation and encouragement!!!.
Great quote by Spurgeon. May God keep His servants faithful to His Word and raise up more to preach the Gospel.
P.S. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. I’m glad to find another kindred spirit in the blogsphere.
