I don’t think there can be a greater task that any Christian can lend care to than the right interpretation and proper application of the Word of God.
If His face is to be found on the pages of this great Book than it ought to be our most urgent undertaking.
I’ve extracted a small portion from “Christ the Word” published in the Valley of Vision — a collection of Puritan prayers that has become very precious to me.
In the words of Matthew Henry, “Let us pray without ceasing, that our eyes may be opened to behold this Light, that we may walk in it; and thus be made wise unto salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ.”
“If I oppose the Word I oppose my Lord
when heΒ is most near.
If I receive the Word I receive my Lord
wherein he is nigh.
O thou who hast the hearts of all men
in thy hand,
form my heart according to thy Word,
according to the image of thy Son,
So shall Christ the Word, and his Word,
be my strength and comfort.”
“So shall Christ the Word, and his Word, be my strength and comfort.β
Amen Christina! What else is there but His Word?
There is nothing else. And the more that I see that the more that I just want to get it right. Love you!
There were years when I was foolishly looking for something from the Lord apart from His word. But this is where He is to be found.
Thanks, Christina.
Amen, Persis. Jesus, the Word of God, is the standard whereby all things are judged. Apart from it we have nothing.
It’s nice to see all the quotes from Puritans. While some aspects of their lifestyle were a bit quaint to put it gracefully, their theological understanding was quite astounding. Bless you for sharing this!
Louis,
I have come to appreciate the Puritans so much. In their writings we find such a rich heritage — a treasure trove of truth that surpasses so much of what passes off as Christianity today.
If you get a moment, check this link out! I think you will love it. It’s a little long but worth every second of your time:

Love and blessings my dear brother!
How misunderstood the Puritans often are. π
Wonderful words, Christina. We’ve been speaking much in our home of cultivating a heart that prays without ceasing, and His Word…oh, the blessing of feasting on it daily and being diligent to KNOW what it says and, by His grace, living it out for His glory.
Thanks, too, for visiting my son’s site. I’m passing on your encouraging words, friend!
Hope your week is going well. π
Hi Trisha,
As I read your comment I was reminded that we cannot pray right unless we know the Word. And, as you said, so let us be diligent to know what it says.
And yes, please do tell your son that I loved his blog.
Lord bless you my dear friend!
O Yes, I agree, when my doctrine was all wrong (man centered) I prayed wrong! Now that I am building my life on a sound doctrine, I found that I even pray more!! π
O how, I love my Jesus and His Word!
Love you!
That’s funny, Becky! I was just leaving a comment at your place only to return and find one from you! Beautiful!
Have a wonderful night my dear sister!
Love and blessings!
I love this Christina! I have The Valley of Vision on facebook and I always look forward to their posts.
Me too!
I can say that next to the Bible of course, The Valley of Vision is one book that I would want if I could have only one for the rest of my life.
Oh, we should be FB friends, no? π I will look for you this weekend!
Happy Friday!
