“If we give way to self-pity and indulge in the luxury of misery, we remove God’s riches from our lives and hinder others from entering into His provision.
No sin is worse than self-pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self-interests.
It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we simply become spiritual sponges–always absorbing, never giving, and never being satisfied. And there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives. ”
~Oswald Chambers
I LOVE this. How are we as complaining Christians making the gospel look to non-believers? Whenever we complain we are basically saying the we aren’t too happy where our Lord has us. We are on our way to the promise land and all we can do is complain? give me a break. its unsettling.
I have been reading phil. 2:14 this past month and this verse came to mind.
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life….
Quit yer yippin’…and shine like a star!
love ya girl, thanks for posting.
am I being insensitive? 🙁
LOL! No Lis, you are just being a woman! Just kidding!
Actually, I considered for a moment if this post was insensitive but the truth is there is a season for everything. There is a time to share our burdens with others and then there is a time to simply trust the sovereignty of God in all of our circumstances. At ALL times however we CAN cast our cares on the Lord!
I love the verse you shared!
Love you dearly!
I agree. There is plenty enough pain that warrants our compassion and sharing a burden And then there is self-pity which is self-seeking. It doesn’t really want advice or truth or faith or God on His throne. Just don’t ask me how I know. 🙂
I won’t ask you if you don’t ask me. Deal?
Listening now the sermon associated with this quote: http://illbehonest.com/The-Sin-of-Self-Pity-Kevin-Williams
Love you Petra!
How true, how true!! I wish I could anonymously send this to a few people I know. hahaha!
Yeah, me too Diane! LOL!
Although I gotta admit, I’ve been known to have a few pity parties myself! Cake, balloons, invitations and all! Hahahaha!!!
May God give us the grace to rise up each time our thoughts go this treacherous way!
Love you!
Great quote. Love the poster too.
at my house we call this “Martyr’s syndrome”. It’s a sin and a horrible witness. As a Christian we have to be thankful, even in the hard times.
Yeah — Martyr’s Syndrome is a good way to describe for sure!
And, you are sooo right — no matter the explanation or the excuse…at the end of the day it is “sin”. Sin is crouching at the door and at the end of the day we must learn to master it. There is no excuse; we have the testimony of the written word.
May God give us grace!
Love you T! xoxoxo
Love you too C! Great post!
I love that poster. We are truly living in a warped and crooked generation. That’s why we have to be the light.Love you Chris.
Agreed.
