This weekend I had the misfortune of spending a prolonged period of time in a waiting room. A television was on in the background that was tuned to a station in which a political debate was taking place.
As each candidate sought to put forth themselves as the answer, I could feel myself growing more and more despondent. Such vanity. What darkened counsel man has to offer. What miserable instruction. What promises of trouble their so-called “progressive” thinking guarantees us! Surely these leaders will drive us all into the ditch!
But there is One who has declared, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool” (Isaiah 66:1).
Yes; trouble will come,”But if one trouble follow hard after another, if all seem to combine for our ruin, let us remember they are all appointed and overruled by the Lord.” (Matthew Henry).
Psalms 43:3 says, “Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!”
In Christ, we have the light. The Lord is our light and our salvation. He will lead us in Truth. His Word is the Truth. He will teach us, and every gracious and divine providence in our life will lead us into His presence.
Oh Lord, let our hope be in You all day long!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and heart, Christina. You’re not alone! The same experiences plague me whenever I’m caught in a room with a TV or a radio tuned to a debate/discussion hailing man’s darkened counsel, ideal, solution, etc.! And just as I begin to feel the life- and faith-robbing effects of my mere listening to it; right before my emotions fling headlong into despair, the Holy Spirit intercedes to remind me that God governs all, that our dwelling is in the Most High–our Lord and our refuge–and that we are safe beneath His wings and shielded by His faithfulness, come what may!
God bless you with His comforting truth, now and always!
Bless you, Petra! Thank you!
The news, and politics, can be so distressing. Praise God for the Rock on which we stand. Wonderful post, Christina. I pray that your “waiting room” experience was not a reason for serious concern. (((Hugs)))
Yes, I agree! Praise God for Christ, the solid rock!
And, no worries whatsoever! All is well with me! Thank you for your concern and your “hugs”!
Blessings to you, my dear friend & sister!
I pray you have a beautiful week in the Lord!
I was thinking exactly the same as Patricia! I am so happy all is well with you!
Con mucho cariño!
“Oh Lord, let our hope be in You all day long!” Amen dear sister!
All I have to say about the political pundits is
“How blessed is the man who does not walk
in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” Ps 1:1
What a blessed expression of Light that pours forth through the darkness. Thank you, sister. Sometimes we get so stuck on the absolute truth that Christ, the Light, is infinitely bright, that we miss the truth that relates to us on a very common level. We are created beings, finite, and unable to comprehend the infinitude of Chist’s brightness: though the Holy Spirit certainly affirms it to my soul, and that truth registers in my renewed mind, yet, the blessed brightness of His light is never more illuminated than when I see it in the sinful world around us, and most especially when I see that I was once as black and dark and vain and soiled as anything the world could produce… and, apart from His grace, I still have a great propensity toward that darkness.
Lift high the Lord with exalted praise! Though my revelation of the purity of His Person is only a mere drop in the infinite oceans of His love, a drop is overwhelming and of infinite power; a single photon of His light, to we who were saturated in darkness, is more illuminating than the sun unhindered by clouds at high noon.
Thank you for your encouraging post.
