The daily business of a Christian

July 28, 2010 by Christina

“The daily business of a Christian is to . . .

resist the devil,
deny himself,
overcome the world,
crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts,
imitate Christ,
walk with God.”

– William S. Plumer

Pretty straightforward, no?

Pretty straightforward, YES, in theory. Now, to the practical aspect of it…*bends forward, scans the room, and then whispers*…it’s a little more of a fight.

Thanks for the reminder! Love and blessings!

      Blessings to you Petra!

You know, I actually read this as detailed instructions on staying focused on Christ and him crucified. Being “busy” for Christ can sometimes become a distraction. Our identity comes from Him, and Him alone, not what we do. Notice how the list does not include any mention of “works” or “service”.

Anyway, as always, it is a blessing to hear from you my dear sister!

Pray you are having a beautiful day!

“I actually read this as detailed instructions on staying focused on Christ and him crucified.” So did I. And the above list is my heart’s desire in its entirety! Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to my spiritual battle of staying focused on Christ just as recommended. I did not mean ‘practical’ in terms of ‘works’ or ‘service’ but in regard to staying focused and not distracted. My spirit is willing… and I believe wholeheartedly that Jesus will not abandon the good work He has begun in me. Again, sorry for the confusion, or for making light of a serious subject (I should not have done that). I need Jesus every second of every moment of every day. Blessings and love!

Ahhh….I see what you were saying! And, please sister, by no means did I think you were making light of this! But now that we have agreed upon what it means, let us rejoice together in the grace that is ours as we go about our “daily business”! Bless you, Petra! : )

    Ooh…nice and straightforward indeed!

I would suggest that to “imitate Christ” is to succeed in all the rest.

    Minimalistically yours,
    Paul

Rule #1: Never take theological advise from a Plumer

OK, sorry. Lame joke, I know. Hey! It’s Friday!

Wow, Plumer has quite an interesting bio. At least according to the all knowing peeps at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Plumer

He wrote a LOT too! I know I’ve heard of him before. This snippet from Christina is great.

it’s Fight the good fight Friday, everyone! Get on with your daily business and have a great weekend!
